In simple terms, Strategy Development is the process of evaluating a desired aspiration and transforming the vision into a set of broadly defined objectives that are supported by a series of actions to meet them.

Strategic Development starts with defining the desired target, or Point of Arrival (POA), and designed to work backwards to the current state, or Point of Departure (POD). This is fundamentally different to Business Planning, where in contrast is used as a mechanism to execute and deliver the Strategy.

Putting all this in context, Tactical Planning plays an important part also and is defined by short-term or interim-led objectives with predetermined outcomes. These objectives remain fixed but true to the overarching POA defined by the strategy.
